... and certainly not online. Because photography is prohibited!
Take pictures of the beautiful food in the restaurant? Just take a product in the supermarket to ask a friend a question about it? Attention! Here is photographing prohibited!
True story: My roommate asked me to bring her something to nibble from the supermarket. I went over to the supermarket and unfortunately found nowhere exactly those chips she wanted. But very similar. So I quickly took a picture of the chips to send her the picture and ask her if they were okay too.
Suddenly, two people from the supermarket came up to me, pointing out that it was forbidden, which I just did, and wondering what I needed the picture for. I was confused and probably lobster red too. I annoyed them with the chips. The staff asked me to delete the picture and pointed out again that I should please in the future no photos in their supermarkets (it was a large German supermarket chain) may make.
At home, I immediately started researching and was surprised where photography is forbidden:
1. Take pictures of food in the restaurant
The pros in the restaurant can do it easily. The food is so well prepared, that must be photographed immediately and best still be shared with friends on Facebook!
But beware: In individual cases, this can actually cause trouble! Because there are two situations in which it is forbidden to photograph his food in restaurants.
For one, if it is very elaborately designed. The cook is then the author of this "artwork" and photos (and even more their publication) are only allowed with his consent.
On the other hand, if the restaurant basically forbids taking pictures in its house rules (see next point).
2. Take photos in shops
It is not generally forbidden to take pictures in a supermarket or other shop. But here, too, the house right of the business owner. And if he forbids photography in his house rules, then one must not photograph in his rooms.
Because even if the business is freely accessible to everyone, it is far from a public space. By entering the business premises we agree to the house rules and have to abide by them. (Why the business owner bans photographing in his house rules is another question that only the individual business owner can answer.)
BUT: As a customer you have to have the opportunity to see this house rules. It must therefore be posted at the entrance of the supermarket (or restaurants, see above) or there must be clearly visible prohibition signs.
3. With the girls in the bar ... and the guy in the background ...
Of course we like to take a picture of us with our friends. In a bar, in the restaurant, in the subway ... If the house rules (see above) do not say anything, that's alright. But you should be careful that you are really just photographing yourself. People who are clearly visible in the background have the right to forbid you to photograph them and, above all, to publish the image.
4. On vacation
Other countries, other laws. And we should pay attention to that!
For example, there are countries where palaces, government buildings, airports or police and military can not be photographed, often not even in the background. This is the case, for example, in Cyprus or Greece.
Inform yourself about such laws before your next vacation on the page of the Foreign Office.
