A nice colleague, a friend of the party last night or a long-lost girlfriend - when the friend request symbol on our Facebook account comes on, there is always a reason to be happy. We should be cautious, however, if the person behind the friend request seems too familiar to us and we think we are already connected to it. In this case, there might be a hacker attack behind the request.

Hackers copy known Facebook accounts

The latest trick of data hackers is to copy foreign profiles that create a fake profile with the same photos under the same name. This sends then cheerfully friend requests to the circle of acquaintances of the person who served as a template for the fake profile . The treacherous thing about it? The people who receive the request are more inclined to answer them positively because they (hopefully) really know their Facebook contact.

Please refrain from asking a mobile number!

If you are friends with a fake account, they will have access to all your private information that you share on Facebook. Sometimes the hackers also report strange messages in which they pretend to be your friend and write that they have lost their credentials and now have a new account. Or the hackers ask via Facebook Messenger if you can give them your mobile number. If you do this, the hackers can do their mischief with the combination of all your information.

In order to protect you, you should therefore, whenever you receive a friend request on Facebook, make sure that you do not already have the contact in your list and in case of doubt prefer to ask in real life again.
