Natural Hazard Report 2015

The Natural Hazards Report 2015 gives scary weather forecasts. Experts warn against ever stronger hurricanes and threatening heavy rain!

Unbearable heat alternating with thunderstorms and heavy rains. The German summer of 2015 had it with new heat records, but at the same time also strong temperature fluctuations in itself. In general, one has the feeling that the weather has become increasingly unpredictable in recent years. Be it extreme heat or shivering cold - the climate seems more moody than ever. That now also notes the Natural Hazard Report 2015, issuing alarming warnings.

Full-blown cellars are already part of everyday life in some areas. Because not only the hailstones are getting bigger - also the rain is getting more and more extreme. Experts warn that the heavy rain has been the most underrated so far. This is not only difficult to predict in time, even on the descending amount of water, no specific information can be made.

This makes the preparation for a heavy rain even more difficult. Drainage systems are increasingly reaching their limits, especially in cities. The water can no longer be discharged - consequences are floods in such a high frequency, as we do not know from the past. While a strong flood has been noted somewhat every 50 years, the number is set to double in the future, so we are likely to experience such extreme situations every 25 years.

The extreme cloudbursts repeatedly cause damage to houses, roads and cars, which are not prepared for the heavy rain. However, it also looks similar in case of storm damage. Because yet another mood of nature worries the experts. In March 2015, hurricane "Niklas" caused considerable damage in Germany. Two more tornadoes have already been noted. In total, the Natural Hazards Report documents costs totaling 1.2 billion euros in 2015 as a result of bad weather.

Worrying: Researchers can not give the all-clear, but they expect a further increase in extreme weather conditions. The effects of climate change are becoming more and more noticeable. In the future, hurricanes and heavy rains should become even more threatening.
