Then harvesting from your own balcony is certainly the thing for you!

Mini vegetables in the pot

With your own vegetable paradise you can also save a lot of money - and on top of that, it's a lot of fun. For a rich yield, it depends above all on the right plants. So-called "mini vegetables" is ideal for growing in pots.

Here z. B. Paprika (for example, snack paprika "Daisy" by Kiepenkerl, a plant costs about 2.95 euros): Feel comfortable on warm, bright balconies and tolerate sometimes rain. You can harvest about six kilos of fruit during the summer.

Aromatic tomatoes

A classic for balcony: Tomatoes (eg "Phantasia", a plant costs about 2.50 euros). Best when planting slow-release fertilizer mix under the ground. If first fruits show up, you can supplement liquid fertilizers.

Your reward for little effort: From July to October you can constantly harvest new aromatic tomatoes - up to eight kilos from a plant.

Practical seed bands

Particularly useful are so-called seed bands. Here the seeds are already at a reasonable distance. Lay the tape in the balcony box in a groove about two centimeters deep.

Then sprinkle and let grow - that's all. For example, spicy Asian vegetables grow easily and quickly, which you can use for salads and for cooking in the wok (seed bag with four ribbons approx. 2.40 euros). After five to seven weeks, you can reap.

You will also have success with salad and radish: harvest time is four to six weeks. If you have a regular spruce, you will have fresh greens all summer.

Herbs from the windowsill

Even fresh herbs taste best from their own harvest. For that you do not even need a balcony : Cress can be pulled all year round wonderfully on moistened cotton, after just a week she is already ready to enjoy (a bag of seeds for half a square meter costs about 70 cents). Basil, rosemary and Co. thrive in pots on the sunny kitchen windowsill!

What should you sow now?

Sowing beans, peas and corn: Starting in mid-May, the right sowing time for heat-loving vegetables such as beans, peas, cucumbers, zucchini or corn. You need warm weather, where the soil temperature should be permanently above 10 degrees to germinate well.

Seed the seed directly into the bed at a distance of three to five centimeters in row or as a horst, laying three to six seeds in a shallow well. Cover with soil and water well. If the weather is still too cold in May, a fleece over the sowing helps as a protective blanket.

Small balcony - tall plants

Because often the area is limited, you just have to garden. Creeping plants are perfect for growing on the balcony . Additional benefit: They also offer privacy. Easy care and lush red blooming is for example the fire bean. But also pumpkin or cucumber thrive well.

Balcony fruit

It can also be kept in pots dwarf fruit trees. When buying make sure that they are self-fertile varieties. So you only need a plant from each fruit. Only apples should be better placed two or three trees, so that they can pollinate.

A tip: if you sow regularly, then you can harvest the entire summer from the snack garden and you have a beautiful planting all the time as well.
