Times Are Changing: New Kids On The Blog

First, it was just an angry whisper, then it developed into a much-controversial scandal: In the inbox of the now 14-year-old Tavi Gevinson, author of the blog Style Rookie fluttered in early 2009 invitations to all important fashion shows. Marc Jacobs, Yohji Yamamoto and the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte put the youngsters in the first row - right next to US Voguechefin Anna Wintour. And who is sitting there? For several decades, an old-established editorial team has reserved their seats with towels. Estimated 1.7 million words, thanks to which the lady with the red quill has written the chair between the skinny stylists and prudent Fashion directors. Another influential redhead sits many a few seats further: the almost 70-year-old Grace Coddington is ex-model, fashion boss of Vogue and thus the soul of the magazine. It started on the same day as Anna Wintour, who also knows about the maneuvering edge of the fashion circus known magazine boss.

For some seasons now just the blogger community can play along. The Philippine Bryan Boy, after Marc Jacobs already named the BB-Bag, Jessica White, who meanwhile throws the German flagship LesMads alone, or the Londoner Susie Bubble travel around the world with press credentials and report in real-time on the happening. But instead of pondering wrinkles in the botoxed forehead, many print editors see the blogs as an opportunity to devote themselves to new tasks or as a source of inspiration, perhaps for a new trend.
