Cool kitchen help

Strawberries ring in the summer and with these sweet potholders the preparation of light dishes like asparagus is even more fun.

What you need for the oven mitts:

  • 50 g merino wool in red (eg from Coats)
  • 50 g Merino wool in green (eg from Coats)
  • a rest of felt in yellow
  • Bubble wrap (packaging material or office supplies)
  • Turbo felters (eg from Coats, craft shops, 50 ml are enough for about 5 liters of liquid)
  • spray bottle
  • Embroidery thread in red (eg by Anchor)
  • Dry felt needle (eg from Coats)
  • Dry felt pads (eg from Coats)
  • scissors
  • sewing needle
  • sewing thread

And that's how easy it is:

1. Pull out evenly long pieces of fiber (about 6 cm) out of the red wool.

2. Overlay the fibers in several layers at right angles and crosswise over the bubble wrap. The surface should be approx. 20 x 20 cm in size so that the potholder is approx. 16 x 16 cm in size.

3. Mix turbo felter with water according to the package instructions and fill in the spray bottle. Moisten the wool surface with turbo felt.

4. Work the wool with circular finger movements while working from the outside to the middle.

5. Turn the felt over in between and work from the other side as well. Moisten the felt again and again with turbo felt.

6. Continue felting until the desired density of the felt is achieved.

7. Let the felt dry and cut into strawberry.

8. Sew on the edge with red embroidery thread (is not absolutely necessary, because the felt does not fray, but looks better).

9. Repeat steps 1-6 with a little less green wool and cut out 4 leaves and a hanger.

10. Spray the hanger a little more with turbo felt and turn between the fingers to the line.

11. Using the dry felting needle, felt the dots first in green, then in yellow. Put a dry felt pad under it.

12. Sew on the leaves and the hanger.
