Rules, appointments and more for the White Dinner
The Diner en blanc, an outdoor summer party in white, is now rising again in many German cities. Who invented this. And what it takes to participate in the White Dinner.
Diner en Blanc began as a secret dinner event in Paris and has been held annually since 1988 in the French capital. Unlike the many German offshoots, the meeting place in Paris is secret every year, and the meeting point is sent by SMS on the dinner day. Nevertheless, the white dinner attracts thousands to the long table, for the 20th anniversary six years ago, the diner en blanc celebrated at the world famous Champs-Élysées.
How did the dinner come to life?
If you believe the rumors, there was a crowded garden party at the beginning. Because the host Francois Pasquier wanted to refuse anyone, she was summarily moved to a park.
Meanwhile, the diner en blanc is not quite so secretive, but still knows and takes place in many German cities. Everyone may be present and the entrance is - except for exclusive exceptions - free.
The rules of the diner en blanc
All participants wear white clothes, bring beside a basket full of delicacies also tables and chairs themselves.
If you want to sit together with many people at the Diner en Blanc, tables and chairs should be set up half an hour before the official start. Because the event is open to everyone and only rarely can seats be reserved.
