The name trends of the future are THAT the top baby names 2017?

At the end of each year, lists of the most popular baby names are created. In the top 10, it is usually only the classics. If you like it more extraordinary, you can be inspired by this list of names of the future:

Babies can not choose their names - curse and blessing at the same time? :-)

1. Lucifer

In America this year, a television series titled "Lucifer" has been launched (in Germany launch on July 15, 2016 at Amazon).

The series is successful - apparently many people want to see how the devil leaves boredom and mixes with people, where he can be explained by a psychotherapist human feelings.

The sympathetic character of the protagonist increases the chances that more and more babies are named after the devil. Sounds bad and negative? It is not at all! Because "Lucifer" comes from the Greek and means "light bearer". In the Bible, it is even translated as "morning star" ( Lucifer is the ancient name of the planet Venus ) and initially has nothing to do with the devil.

The fact that we associate Lucifer and Lucifer with the devil is based solely on a misinterpretation of human beings.

Maybe Hollywood actually manages to put that name back in the right light ...

2. Arlo

In November 2015, an animated film from Disney thrilled numerous small and large viewers: "Arlo & Spot", the story of a friendship between the good Dino Arlo and the human boy Spot.

After the movie was released, "Arlo" became a popular baby name - even though the original meaning or origin of the name is completely unclear.

In Finland, "Arlo" is the abbreviation of "Angelos" (angel), from Spanish "Arlo" means "barberry plant" ( yes, the tree! ), In Italy "Arlo" is considered a variation of "Charles" and in English it, "Arlo" is an abbreviation of "Harlow", which means "armed hill" means. Hm ... then rather the Dino, right?

3. Cataleya

The meaning of this name is beautiful: It comes from the South American orchid species Cattleya, which in turn is named after the British horticulture specialist Sir William Cattley.

The surname "Cattley" is interpreted as a mix of cat (cat) and the ending -ley, which comes from lea (glade). Would be nice. However cattle means cattle in English. Less beautiful.

But how does a flower name become a trend? Right: Again, Hollywood had its fingers in the game again. If one considers that the name Cataleya first reached 2012 in the German hit list of the most popular female name (after all made it to place 351 ), the parallel to the film becomes clear. Shortly before, the American-French movie "Colombiana" premiered. The protagonists were called Cataleya Restrepo ( played by Zoe Saldana ).

4. Nico

Nico is one of the timeless boy names. Since the 1960s, "Nico" is always in the top 100 in the rankings before. No wonder, after all, Nico or Niko is the abbreviation for Nicholas or Nicholas, is internationally pronounceable and usable and is appreciated by unbelievably many people who have good childhood memories of the annual visit of Nicholas on 6 December.

The Greek name Nicholas is composed of nike (victory) and laos (people) - ie "the victory of the people". If that's too pathetic, you're only winning, so Nico.

Since the 1960s, there have always been some superstars named Niko / Nico, such as Nico Rosberg (Formula 1 racer) or the Norwegian pop duo Nico & Vinz . Maybe celebrity names are also a reason why some names always stay with us ...

5. Kaya

Who thinks of the comedian Kaya Yanar, is probably not Japanese. Because in Japan Kaya is a female given name, while in Turkey it is a family name and boy's name. There Kaya has the meaning "rock".

Pianist Kaya Han, for example, comes from the Far East, while restaurateur and author Ali Riza Kaya is of German-Turkish origin.

In Germany and America more women are called Kaya, such as the actresses Kaya Marie Möller and Kaya Rose Scodelario.

6. Lennox

Well, who comes to mind first: The boxer Lennox Lewis, the singer Annie Lennox or rather the Americanish sitcom "Melissa & Joey", in which one of the four leading actresses Lennox Elisabeth Scanlon is called?

Originally, Lennox was a Scottish surname. It was not until the 21st century that it spread to Germany - as a first name.

The name is translated as " field on the river Leven ", which in turn means in Welsh " Llyfn " and means "calmly flowing". Everyone knows that world boxers are at peace in Erson.

7. Arya

"Game of Thrones" ( film adaptation of the five-volume fantasy saga "The Song of Fire and Ice", JRR Martin ) is one of the most successful fantasy series in the world. The fact that the name of a main character penetrates into reality was almost a matter of time.

The figure Arya Stark rebels against becoming a lady, "though" she is a princess. And "although" the name "Arya" is the short form of Adriana and in the Indian area means something like "the Noble", "the noble" or "the honorable."

In Europe Aria is an Italian first name and is called "lioness". Who wants to give his daughter strength, can certainly try this name ...

8. Castiel

Sounds heavenly? It is also: Castiel ( also: Cassiel ) is the name of an angel. Translated from the Hebrew, it says, "God is my protection." As patron saint of Thursday he protects all those who were born on a Thursday.

The female counterpart to this is Cassie / Cassy / Cassidy.

Since when is the hype around this name? Of course, since the TV series "Supernatural" celebrates success.

9. Everett

The Old English boy name Everett has a good chance to start a trend. After all, names that end in -ett are absolutely in. Like Scarlett (eg Johansson, actress).

In the movie " O Brother, Where Art Thou? " ( 2000 ) George Clooney plays the protagonist Everett. And in the (already deposed) crime series "Backstorm" ( 2015 ) was the protagonist, a detective lieutenant, also Everett.

Everett comes from the name Evered, which in turn comes from the name Eoforheard and is as much as "brave as a wild boar", in German "brave as a wild boar".
