Even after ten years in America ...

Memories of the homeland: For some it is a landscape, for others it is the friends or places where you played as a child. Very personal moments and feelings that often accompany you for a lifetime. As with tennis legend Steffi Graf (40). For ten years now she lives with her husband Andre Agassi (39) and their children Jaden (8) and Jaz (6) in Las Vegas - but Germany is still her home.

"Home smells like forest and damp air"

In an interview with the women's magazine "Emotion" Steffi Graf now talked about what connects them to Germany and how she built up a piece of home in faraway America. Steffi Graf lives with her husband and children in a beautiful villa with its own tennis court in Spanish Hills, the upmarket district of the desert city of Las Vegas. The athlete has a large circle of friends there, feels good. It seems she has found happiness in Las Vegas - nevertheless: "My home is clearly Germany. Las Vegas is my home. It would be difficult for me to view Las Vegas as my home. I prefer to call it my food point. The word Heimat is too much connected ... ", says the athlete.

It is often the little things that remind Steffi Graf of Germany, of her childhood in the small town of Brühl near Mannheim. "The taste of peppermint tea strangely. And of course the smell of forest and damp air. Otherwise, I connect it in any case with familiar faces. You know the environment, your friends, the baker, the butcher, it's a feeling of familiarity. "

Her family and background are important to her

The comments of Steffi Graf clearly show how closely she is connected to her roots, how important her family and her background are. She knows that's why, despite her great achievements and her unique athletic career, she has always been down. There have never been scandals or embarrassing slip-ups. Because the family's security and intimacy are so important to her, Steffi Graf has taken a piece of home in the far-off USA. Meanwhile, Steffi Graf's mother and her brother's family live in Las Vegas. Steffi Graf: "That was very important to me. Ultimately, it depends on the fact that the family is together ... We have even taken a German Shepherd dog to the US. "A return to Germany - this is currently not an issue for Steffi Graf. But she always likes to come to visit where everything started.
