Designer duo Perret / Schaad in an interview

At the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in spring / summer 2014

Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad make purist Berlin fashion. With great success. Already the first collection of the designer duo managed to sell directly from the catwalk in 2010. A career kick-off that succeeds only very few young fashion labels. In the summer of 2013 Perret Schaad will be showing for the eighth time at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin . We talked to the designers about their new collection, the creative collaboration and common opposites.

"Flowing and airy dresses are wonderful for this summer, and we love graphic lines, structured volumes for jackets and skirts, " say Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad about their 2014 look.

Her fashion thrives on filigree breaks and soft contrasts, of sculptural simplicity, of feminine tenderness and rigid details. A look that arrives.

Since the label was founded four years ago, Perret / Schaad are among the darlings of the Berlin fashion scene. Today you can buy your designs worldwide, from Moscow and New York via Basel or Tokyo to Saudi Arabia and of course Berlin.

The positive response is not least due to the unusual mix of colors and materials. No wonder then that the selection of fabrics and colors is at the beginning of each collection. "We have a pretty similar feeling and almost always make the same choices without talking to each other, " say the designers.

Spring / Summer 2014 colors include cassis and mint ice, sunny yellow, pigment rich orange-red, elegant swimming pool blue, and pure graphite gray on flowing silk and airy linen and cotton. As a contrast, synthetic materials are compared. The idea behind the collection: "The reflection of a summer in the city."

Tutia Schaad is 31, Johanna Perret is 30 years old. Both studied fashion design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, then completed internships at "Givenchy" in Paris and completed their studies in 2009. The cooperation of the last years has brought the duo even closer together.

"We both learned a lot about each other's working methods and were inspired by each other in order to be able to draw on the qualities of the other for our cooperation, " say Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad. Both are equally involved in the creative process: "Our collection lives from our discussions, and in our creative process we exploit our similarities and differences to create our designs that are both uncompromising and diverse."

And it is precisely these fine contrasts that make up the Perret / Schaad collections that are reflected in fashion. This is how collaboration works.
