But why is it that some plants simply hang their heads sadly and lose their courage in dizzy heights? We clarify.

First of all, the timing is not crucial. Plant your balcony plants only in May, because then the risk of night frost is banned. That a plant on your balcony does not feel good, but can also hang with the sky alignment. Because: Some plants tolerate better shade, while others like to take a dip in the sun. The following should be considered when selecting plants:

You have a south-facing balcony: your balcony is in the summer almost the whole day in the sun. Therefore, plants must be chosen that can defy the temperatures even in midsummer. Here are Mediterranean representatives asked! Lavender, hibiscus but also geraniums like sun and will not let their heads hang when they are watered regularly. Even olive or small orange trees are suitable for such a south-facing balcony and can tolerate direct sunlight well.

You have a north-facing balcony : in summer, this balcony is a wonderfully shady spot, after all, there is hardly any sunshine there. The downside: Not all summer flowers like to stand in the shade - and eventually wither away. But do not worry: the balcony does not have to be bare and empty. Fuchsias, ivy, chrysanthemums but also different ferns feel at home even without sun.

You have an east-facing balcony : your balcony always has sunshine in the morning, but at midday it disappears behind houses and trees? Then you should choose in the balcony design plants that tolerate penumbra. These are for example: petunias, begonias, daisies or asters.

You have a balcony to the west: Only in the afternoon do you get your balcony sun, accordingly plants should be settled, which unfold their full glory at this time of day. Feel particularly well here: lilies, hydrangeas or diligent Lieschen.

And so you plant and fertilize flowers optimally:

Plant balcony flowers: Here are the key points in short form:

  • Fill expanded clay into the bucket so that it drains off excess water.
  • Cut a dividing line and lay over it. This prevents sludge.
  • Apply a thin layer of potting soil with fertilizer and spread over the fleece.
  • Immerse purchased plants in their pots in water until no more air bubbles rise up. Then loosen flowers from pots.
  • To root the plant better, the roots should be loosened a bit and pulled apart.
