"Selfie" only in 4th place

In 2013, "Babo" prevailed as the youth of the year. Now the youth word 2014 is set: The jury decided "Runs with you".

Now it's official: As the Munich-based Langenscheidt-Verlag announced, the term "Runs With You" was voted " Jugendwort 2014" . It means something like "cool" or "you can do it".

In second place for the Youth Word 2014 ends the saying "treat yourself!", Which is synonymous with "have fun", but can also be used ironically. Third place went to a term from Turkish. "Hayvan" means "animal" directly, but is used by adolescents as a synonym for a "muscle package" or a good friend. Also possible is the meaning "drive-controlled". The term "selfie" only made it to fourth place. Rank five goes to the term "mustard", a newfangled term for the know-it-all.

The Youth Word of the Year has been elected since 2008. Each year, new teens have the opportunity to submit their favorite words online. From the middle of the year then starts the voting. 30 words are shortlisted for the Youth Word of the Year. Anyone who so wishes may choose their personal favorite until October 31st. The result of the online voting will then be presented to the jury in November. This then selects not only the respective youth word of the year, but also the places two to five.

According to the Langenscheidt publishing house, the following criteria are decisive for the choice: the linguistic creativity, the originality, the spreading of the word as well as cultural and social events. In all these categories, the expression "Runs on you" was convincing and became the Youth Word 2014.
