In football, the music plays

Before tonight at 6:00 pm Jogi's guys compete against Klinsi's boys and it's time again to cheer, cheer and keep their fingers crossed, let's have a look at the musical World Cup tradition.

Not only are the teams competing for the cup in all World Cup years - the competition for the football hit of the season is also regularly kicked off.

In the past, the German World Cup soccer players often sang themselves. In 1974, for example, our national team was singing " football is our life " into the hearts of fans and even to the World Cup victory. Four years later, the national team could land a chart success together with Udo Jürgens and "Buenos dias, Argentina", but lost Austria in the second round.

Today countless musicians send their own sing-along hymns with football flair into the race. From the fervent ballad to the danceable stadium hit, the range is again huge this year. The official World Cup song "We Are One" by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte will most certainly not be heard from the ear at least since their joint appearance at the World Cup kick-off. Since Shakira opened the 2006 World Cup with "Hips Do not Lie", nothing at football seems to go without her. Four years later, she sent "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" into the race and this year Shakira is back with "Dare (La La La)". In the meantime, she even has a son with the Spanish football star Gerard Piqué.

In addition to international stars, many German musicians accompany us through the summer with their football songs - be it "On Us" by Andreas Bourani or Fat Bread with "Football God". A week ago, I was allowed to see the Hamburg hip-hop trio live on the fan mile and then interview it. My little personal insider tip: "Rio Reiser" of artificial turf . The two talented guys regularly present the "Wochenrapblick" in the RTL II News and have made their music video at the Copacabana.

And all those who want to be part of a football song video should definitely visit www.rtl2.de/matze. Together with Matze Knop, we are looking for the funniest fan videos for his World Cup song "Golden Generation". Dance, sing, join in and have fun - everything is allowed! The winning videos will be edited by Matze into a special video edition. I hope we see you after the game tonight at 20:00 at the RTL II News - I'm live again on the Berlin fan mile!

Greetings your Sandra
