Life in the cage

Beagles are still popular experimental objects in the research laboratory. These dogs see the sun for the first time after their liberation.

They are considered to be especially friendly, peaceful and trusting. These are the characteristics Beagles often fatalize - the breed of dog is considered particularly suitable for work in the research laboratory. There, the animals become pure experimental objects, locked in tiny cages, the dogs are used to test cosmetics or pharmaceuticals on them.

The Beagle Freedom Project has been taking care of beagles since 2010, which can be freed from research laboratories. The exemption is done in a legal way - the dogs are handed over to the organization if they become useless in the research laboratory. After a life in the cage, the beagles are completely de-socialized, a reason why mediation is often difficult. At this point, the Beagle Freedom Project intervenes, giving dogs an opportunity to live a life of freedom after being released from the research lab. The beagles take a lot of time and need extra attention and love after their captivity - a challenge that pays off, because beagles are considered to be especially loving family dogs.

The video documents the thirtieth release from a research lab where the beagle, after living in a cage, see the sun for the first time in their lives. At first, they still shy away from the new environment and the sunlight, then outweigh the curiosity. Already after the first cautious steps on new underground the Beagles wave excitedly with the tail. Despite the hard time in captivity, the dogs happily approach the humans. The beagles are so trusting, as if thanking people for their salvation.
