Batik is that easy

With batik fabrics can be easily and quickly embellished. We tried it and put together a very easy guide to the most beautiful patterns and courses.

The bonding technique:

The typical batik ringlets are very easy to imitate. Apart from the fabric color and the part to be dyed, you only need glass marbles and a string. Pure natural fibers such as cotton or linen are best! For the tablecloth, we have a finished white runner (about 50 x 150 cm) used, but this pattern looks good on any other white fabric - z. B. on T-shirts.

That's how it works:

For each circle put a marble in the fabric and set. For thin circles, wrap only one round of string around the fabric. If you want wider white stripes, wrap several layers of string under the ball around the fabric. The thicker the bound balls are, the larger the circles on the fabric are later.

Important: Have enough marbles ready, because all later circles must be tied before coloring.

The wax technique:

Dot patterns are created using the wax technique. The wax should be so hot that it can penetrate through the fabric when applied. The simplest method: trickle or pour the liquid wax on the fabric. For patterns or motifs, you better work with a brush. When dyeing, the wax-covered areas can not be rinsed out and the initial color of the fabric is retained. Allow wax to set before dyeing. Later it is removed by washing or ironing.

And here are some tips:

Prepare the color according to the package. Then the entire fabric is immersed. Advanced users can choose different colors for individual sections. Note the drawing time (see package instructions)! Attention: In the dye bath, the color looks darker than later in the dry state!

It's best to hang wet parts outside, drops do not matter. Let it dry, wash and iron. Fixing makes everything durable (see instructions for use of the color). You already have a unique item that you will be envied!

Have fun with batiks!
