Price increase: why plastic bags should now be more expensive

YOU use too many plastic bags! Yes. And because this is not only the case with you, but with most people on this planet, we can soon forget shopping spontaneously.

OK, it's not that bad. We also get plastic bags at the cash registers in the supermarket and in the clothes shop. BUT: From April 2016, plastic bags should be more expensive - 20 cents instead of 10 cents so far, they should cost per piece. If you do not bring a backpack, you may want more tin.

71 (!) Bags per year

The plan has been hammered out by the trade association at the insistence of the Federal Ministry for the Environment. By 2025, the consumption of plastic bags is to be reduced to 40 bags per capita per year. Currently we noodle all 71 (!) Bags per year.

Who we hurt with it? The environment and thus ourselves. The oceans are full of plastic waste. Animals like birds, seals or whales eating the bags die of it. And plastic bags do not decompose, so that stays that way - and it gets more plastic waste every year. In addition, most bags are made from crude oil - a valuable commodity that will not be more.

Only a few of our plastic bags end up in the recyclable waste collection section after use. Most bags end up in the trash and are then burned. There she blows up, our future on this planet.

10 CENT? That may sound ridiculous at first. But over time, the dime amounts loll and so the higher bag price actually makes for restraint when buying plastic bags. Ireland, Denmark and Finland have already done it. In Ireland, a bag fee of 22 cents was introduced, zack, the consumption of 328 bags per year per capita dropped to 16 bags. That's insane 95 percent less!
