"She is the most important person for me!"

Who is allowed to grow up with his grandparents, is blessed. You can learn from them, they let you go through a lot more and they love you more than anything else. Also Andreas Gabalier (current album: "Volks-Rock 'n' Roller") had this luck. His grandfather died unfortunately, but thank God he still has his grandmother Maria.

We accompanied Andreas Gabalier and his beloved grandmother on a trip to a hunting lodge in Styria (Austria). At 1, 800 meters, the two had a wonderful time.

"What a blessing that I'm allowed to experience this in my life. I thought I would never make it up here again. It's a dream and an unforgettable day for me, "explains Maria Knauder. We talked to the singer and his grandmother Maria ...

What do you mean to each other?

Grandma Maria: Andi is my favorite grandson. Enchanting boy. The other grandchildren are also nice to me, but he is something special. I was so looking forward to today. Andreas said that he has a surprise for me and then he picked me up. Andi has so much heart.

Andreas Gabalier: Our relationship is very formative and, above all, intimate. She is the most important person for me.

Mrs Knauder, you have not been so well over the past few weeks ...

Grandma Maria: I had a hard time. I have a remedy in my eyes, which is actually for the treatment of calluses on the feet. The doctors were worried that I would be blind. For hours they rinsed my eyes.

Are you sometimes worried about your grandmother?

Andreas Gabalier: Now and then. After all, she is 86. Due to age, there are already problems. For example, with the heart. She got a pacemaker several years ago. Therefore, she can not jump so wildly and sometimes has trouble getting air. Or the thing, when she got the wrong remedy in her eyes. These are moments where I'm a little worried. But I know that Grandma is a fighter and can not be beaten down.

Grandma Maria: I'm fine. I am so happy that I can still see. And that I can still read. Blindness would be a drama for me.

There was a difficult time in your life ...

Grandma Maria: Yes, when Andi's dad died (he committed suicide in 2007). That was terrible for the whole family. I drove a lot to the boy back then, tried to build him up and told him jokes. I wanted to protect him. I was so afraid for him, I was very worried about him. Thank God he had the music back then.

What did you give your grandson?

Grandma Maria: I always taught him: Everything can be lost, but not the home. We only had the family. And that is the most important thing for us today. Maybe that's why Andi and I are so close. And I always said, always be honest and modest. He has remained until today.

Andreas, are you worried about the future?

Andreas Gabalier: I enjoy my freedom. There is no thought for the next day. I live every day as if it were the last one. You never know what's coming. I'm not planning ahead so long.

Are you a believer?

Andreas Gabalier: I got the faith from home. When I'm on the road, I often go to one of the churches along the way and light a candle. Sometimes for grandma, sister, dad. It always depends on it.
