You have never seen American Beauty like this before
"American Beauty", the American beauty - but what is beauty anyway? Beauty comes in different sizes, colors and also ages. Artist Carey Fruth proves it with her photo project!
Do you remember the movie "American Beauty" from the year 1999? This is about a middle-aged man, played by Kevin Spacey, who is in the midst of a mid-life crisis and suddenly begins to desire a girlfriend of his daughter.
In one of his fantasies, this friend, played by Mena Suvari, lies naked on rose petals. This image of the beautiful blonde girl in the Red Rose Sea is world famous, is often imitated and has become a kind of landmark for beauty and desire.
The photographer Carey Lynne Fruth finds this fantasy terrible. As this thin, white, blonde girl is demoted to a sexual object in the film, the photographer inspired the women to regain their power.
She wants to show with her photos that beauty can be more. She stages models as they can not be more different. They are tall, short, fat, thin, young, old ... but they are all beautiful.
Carey asked her models not just to imitate Mena Suvari, but to show how they are. In all their individual sensuality, vulnerability and strength.
The pictures are intended to show how sensuality and femininity look like in real life - far away from all unrealistic American beauty standards. The purple flowers represent beauty, pride and self-confidence.
