Nobility: 30 happy years of marriage

Congratulation!

How nice that there are still marriages in Europe's royal and princely houses that are stable and happy. For example in Luxembourg. Grand Duke Henri and his wife Marie Teresa were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary there.

If marriages with common partners are the norm in almost all European dynasties, then in 1981, when Henri von Luxemburg and Marie-Theres got married, it was far from common. This was already done by Harald of Norway, who in 1968, however, only after nine years (!) Waiting time, got his father's permission from King Olav to marry the merchant's daughter Sonja Haraldsen. Another pioneer was Carl Gustaf of Sweden . He waited until he himself became king (and therefore no longer had to ask anyone for a marriage permit) and only married the foreign language correspondent Silvia Sommerlath in 1976. Henri also had to ask a long time before he received the OK for his marriage from his father Grand Duke Jean. His mother Grand Duke Charlotte had never forgiven him this step until her death. She made no secret that she did not like her bourgeois daughter-in-law. The "little Cuban" she is said to have derogatory Marie-Teresa Mestre, who then lived as a student in Switzerland, but came from Cuba. But the marriage stopped and was crowned by five children.
