Living with stoma bag

An intestinal disease and an artificial intestinal output changed her life and not just to the negative: The teenager was happy with himself.

She was a normal teenager from the south of England, but in February 2015 she had to be operated on: Hattie Gladwell suffered from the bowel disease ulcerative colitis. Since her surgery she has an artificial intestinal outlet and is totally open.

At the end of January, the 19-year-old's cecum was removed, but her pain remained and even got worse: it was not the cecum, but the bowel's problem. Hattie Gladwell suffered from severe pain and cramping despite heavy medication. After five days in the hospital her condition worsened enormously. The Briton had to be operated on. Your colon has been removed. When she awoke from the narcosis, she saw a big scar, a tube and this bag: Since that day Hattie has to live with a stoma bag. "It broke my heart, it scared me, I felt abnormal, I can not go to the toilet like a normal person, I can not eat like a normal person anymore, " she says today about this moment. The operation has saved her life and she is very grateful for that today.

The teenager does not want to let the disease determine her life and therefore tries to live as normally as possible. She writes about her life with the stoma bag on her blog "More Than Your Bag", where she also describes what it's like to have sex with the bag or swim in a bikini!

Hattie herself has realized that her life is the most important thing. "It's a shame I almost lost my life so I can really appreciate it, " she says. She is now much happier with herself and her motto is that we can all cut a slice: "I live right now and take every day as it comes."
