Beautiful! This is the first thought that springs to mind on the western beach of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Finest sandy beach, lined with wind-swept cliff edge dunes. Bank swallows shoot out of their breeding caves in elegant arches over the beach and collect food for the ever-hungry baby beaks. A steady breeze sweeps over the beach grass. Here nature is left to its own devices, so you can find plenty of shells, weathered driftwood and amber. This part of the Baltic coast is one of the most distinctive beaches in the world. But that's not the only attraction this area has to offer. Located on the 45-kilometer peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst, about 30 kilometers east of Rostock, there is also one of the most beautiful nature parks in Europe, the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Through the jungle and marshes a dense network of cycling and hiking trails, which we use extensively for our trips.

On one we cycle to the defiant lighthouse at the Darßer place. After we have climbed the 134 steps to the platform, we enjoy the wide panoramic view of the Baltic Sea and Bodden landscape. Enjoyment is also the right keyword for us afterwards. Sea air makes you hungry. Fortunately, there are delicious, freshly smoked fish on almost every corner of the peninsula. In addition, Fischland-Darß-Zingst has great restaurants to offer. From the delicious halibut in spice dust, we indulge in the gourmet restaurant "Jägers' Tafelfreuden" in the pretty fishing village Wieck, we will long rave. Freshly strengthened, we dive into the past.

In the open air museum Klockenhagen, historic buildings from Mecklenburg villages including an old windmill were rebuilt. The fields, gardens, pets and equipment are just like cottages hundreds of years ago. Another trip to the past is our visit to Ahrenshoop. Lovingly, the old thatched captain's houses have been restored in this artist's village. Strong colors decorate the houses. Since the end of the 19th century many painters came here who could not get enough of the landscape with their special light. We are also so.We will definitely come back to this Baltic Sea coast.
