The gap between the "poor unemployed" (those who have no jobs and no money) and the "rich unemployed" (those who have so much money that they no longer have to work) continues to diverge. Sure, when the debts of one go up, the borrowed money ends up somewhere else ...

That makes for a good, in the other rather bad mood. But this is exactly what it's all about, after all, it's about the mood.

The hunt for happiness

Everyone defines "happiness" differently. At its core, it's a good emotion that we want to experience as often as possible. Apart from the "inner peace", wealthy people can draw on the full, romping on the playground of materialism: cars, boats, houses in distant lands on beautiful beaches, jewelry, high-tech in the living room, expensive clothes ... any expandable List. There is something for every "wealthy one" that triggers the feeling of quick happiness.

This material, fast luck is denied people with tight cash. The possibilities to quickly get a good feeling with a new toy are limited. Therefore, it may be that they have less success in everyday life and the resulting recognition, which in turn makes happy in the short term. And now the cheap luck makers come into play ...

Sugar, the drug of the brain

The expert explains figuratively what happens in the body through sugar consumption: When sugar floods the brain, all lamps light bright. It is the mindset's favorite fuel. The flood of sugar is rewarded with a barrage of happiness hormones. Serotonin all the way. Sugar and a maximum serotonin shower are linked to each other: In order to be able to tinker the happiness hormone serotonin, the body needs the protein building block tryptophan. Unfortunately, relatively little is found in all protein suppliers and they also have to compete with other components on their way to the brain. Therefore, often only a little bit of the serotonin module is up there.

However, nature has a trick in store: a sugar-induced insulin flood pushes the protein tablets that compete with tryptophan into the muscles. Of these, only a few arrive in the brain. This relatively increases the proportion of tryptophan. Exactly that then increasingly flows into the brain and presses there on the lucky button: it is tinkered more serotonin. The brain wins twice: Good atmosphere in the attic. At the same time there is enough favorite fuel for the greedy brain cells available. This in turn explains why we are all so carbohydrate-based and why especially financially weak people invest in industrial food waste ...

Cheap food - the "drug" of the poor man (and his wife)

The cash situation often decides what will be on the table of the house. And the cheaper it is, the more is on this table. Because the many sugars and the many food additives cheap food not only make you full, but also happy fast.

Patric Heizmann says: looking through the shelves in the supermarket says it all. A bar of chocolate for under 30 cents. The bag of chips and a coke cost only a few pennies. White bread at the discount bakery's been for ten cents. Carbohydrates (flour, sugar) are extremely cheap to procure, can be easily processed together with flavorings, cheap vegetable fats and salt. They have a long shelf life, so they can be made available to a large crowd at a very reasonable price. The cheap purchased industrial calories provide a strong plus on the scales. And an equally strong minus on the health account. Poor people, it is feared, die earlier. That does not even seem to worry the person concerned. True to the motto: Who is unhappy in the here and now and constantly searches for the food drugs to make happiness come alive, who cares about the day after tomorrow? Let's hope that this is exaggerated!

Finding a way out of the downward spiral is by no means easy. But that's still possible. At least for those who have the residual motivation for a self-determined life somewhere in the back left corner of the hypothalamus. A financially favorable way to happiness is movement. Because when the legs are moved, the light also goes up again. Movement also presses the luck button. And that massive! "Collecting good reference experiences" is the trick ...
